This is my 2nd Jenny Colgan book, and like the other one that I read (Bookshop on the Corner) it is sweet and adorable. It is a story in which friendship, family, and authentic passion for something triumph over greed, shallowness, and selfishness. The protagonist, Issy, starts out as a very frustrating doormat personality (frustrating for the reader and apparently for some of her in book friends) but eventually figures out who really cares about her and gets rid of the narcissistic baggage in her life.
Overall a very happy book. It would probably make an adorable movie. If you're looking for a read to cheer you up, I would recommend this. It may also cause an intense urge to bake something.

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe Jenny Colgan 9780751544497 Books Reviews
I've developed a love for Jenny Colgan's books. The two I've read so far, this one and Welcome to Rosie Hopkin's Sweetshop of Dreams, have been lovely, heartwarming and just delightful.
I actually lost the library book of this novel, and was so sad at not being able to finish it, I bought it on and now my husband is enjoying it, too. If you want something that will make you feel wonderful, I recommend this book.
I am so, so glad that I read this book. At the beginning, I felt it wasn't quite for me, but I gave it a chance, and I'm very glad that I did. Each character was interesting, especially Issy, the main one. I liked her spirt, her connection with her grandpa, and her friends. I found myself not wanting to put the book down. I'll be honest, I have zero interest in baking, but 100 percent pleased with the story.
This is a nice story, an easy read. I like books that are set in England, gives a different perspective of life. This novel also has recipes (cupcakes of course) that is introduced at the beginning of most chapters. However, in the review (by the publisher no doubt) they claim it is hilarious and a fast paced read. I have to take some exception to this, as it wasn't nearly as hilarious as it was touted to be and I would say it's an average read, not quite so fast paced. Nonetheless, I'm giving it 3 stars because it's a comfortable story.
I absolutely love this author and this book! My favorite author is Jill Mansel and I was looking for something similar (a romantic comedy without explicit sexual content). This was exactly what I was looking for. The female lead is very relatable. You feel her happiness, uncertainty, love and joy. I did not get bored while reading. Instead I felt inspired to find things I too could be passionate about and almost envied the female lead for sticking to her gut when it came to how to run the business. There were enough characters and events in the novel to keep me entertained. I really enjoyed this book and the writing style. This resulted in me purchasing more novels by this Jenny Colgan. I think I may have a new favorite.
Is that what you call it when you like a book so much that you buy three more by the same author in the same week???
This book is a sweet, (ha!) interesting book that gives one hope in the face of rotter men who are not good for us.
It is a sort of Bridget jones in a bakery story. The characters are fun, sad, interesting. The little boy is adorable and, frankly, the subplots are as good if not better than the main plot.
It is a finely woven tapestry of family and friends who become family. Do not begin this book in the evening on a school/work night!
And prepare to read the Little Beach Street Bakery immediately afterward because this book is like any good sweet, too good leave at just one.
Book #26 Read in 2017
Meet Me at the Cupcake Café by Jenny Colgan
Colgan is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books are wonderfully quick reads, which focus usually on food, or books, or some combination thereof, with interesting characters, romance, humor and happiness. This book included a ton of baked good recipes that any foodie would love.
I loved this book and stayed up til 1 a.m. reading it. Had to finish it today. I tend to read a lot of romantic suspense, books that tend to be a little "gritty", a little blood and gore and don't forget steamy! I was in the mood for something a little lighter than usual and this was on the "Daily Deal" at a decent price so thought I'd try it.
By the end of the first chapter I was hooked. The characters are interesting, their lives are a little messy and frustrating for the, Issy, the main character makes some poor decisions out of desperation, but finally starts to get that right. The story, generally speaking, is somewhat light-hearted, with a fair amount of humor, enough to make me laugh out loud which is very unusual. The book is full of cupcake recipes which all sound very yummy. There were a few British terms I am not familiar with, but was able to figure them out in context.
This isn't a very coherent review and I'm just realizing I'm not entirely sure why I liked this book so much or, at least, I can't find the right words. For whatever reason, I loved this book and my husband had to force me to put it down to get some chores done. It's a book I will probably read again and will certainly look at more books by this author. Thank you Ms. Colgan for a fun read.
