I enjoyed the vampire world that Cheri has created. The book starts off with an attack that is foiled by a good vampire. It starts off with a creepy feel to it. Cheri builds up to the when Danielle finds out that there are really vampires by creating the lore and local stories before hand.

Danielle is visiting her relatives in London. She has come from the United States to go to school. She finds everything confusing. She doesn't have a sense of direction and driving on the opposite side of the road is very confusing to her. In her confusion she finds herself stalked by an eerie man. She barely escapes with the help of a stranger. Of course, he is a very handsome stranger.

Later she finds out that this handsome stranger knows her uncle. Of course they are attracted to each other and begin dating. It's strange though, because she can't look him in the eye, and once again he saves her from the evil stalker. But with superhuman strength.

Yes, he is a vampire. But he is a different vampire. He doesn't want to be a vampire, he wants to be human. Honestly, I couldn't help but like Ethan. He is kind, caring, and puts Danielle's needs first. He is the perfect boyfriend, he just drinks blood for sustenance.

There are similarities to Twilight, but you know, Twilight has many broad themes that it's hard to come up with something completely different. This book takes a different spin and it's worth reading.

I did feel that at times some scenes dragged on and others ended abruptly. The point is that this is a great book to recommend. There is a lot of kissing, but that is as far as it goes. You can let your teen read this and not worry about it. I intend to read the second and any other books that Cheri puts out in the future.

When I found this series on a list of stuff by LDS authors and read the summary, I was like, lolwut? Stephenie Meyer isn't the only Mormon to have written a vampire book? Me being the vampire junkie that I am, of course I had to read it, and I was not disappointed.

Danielle Darcey moves to England for art school, and within two days gets lost downtown, is attacked by a mysterious man, and is saved by another equally mysterious man. She finds out the man who saved her is one Ethan Deveroux, and is immediately smitten with him, not just for saving her life, but for his old-fashioned manners. They start dating, only seeing each other during the day, and eventually Ethan reveals his secret he's a vampire. He refers to his vampirism as "the curse," as the first vampire was created by a sorceress named Lilith in ancient times. He is mostly a normal human during the day but for extraordinary strength and speed, but once the sun goes down the curse takes a stronger hold. Then he feels the bloodlust and is a danger to humans. Ethan is part of the Order, a group of vampires who have sworn off human blood and protect mortals from vampires like Lucas, the one who attacked Danielle at the beginning of the book. Lucas is still after Danielle, so Ethan and the rest of the order have to protect her. Many of the other Order vampires think Ethan should just bite Danielle and turn her so she will be safe (both from Lucas and Ethan's own bloodlust), but Ethan sees his condition as a burden and refuses. This becomes the main conflict at the climax, but I won't give too much away.

I love the vampire lore Ms Schmidt has created with Fateful. The day/night idea is unique. I don't think I've ever encountered a breed of vampires that are only really vampires at night. (And I've read a lot of vampires, so that's saying something.) The method of turning is similar to Twilight in that all it takes is one bite and the vampire's venom completes the transition, but I don't hold that against her. It fits into her story just right.

I also enjoyed how chaste Danielle and Ethan stayed throughout the book, yet their romance still felt intense and real to me. That's a fine line to walk, yet Ms Schmidt did it well.

There were just a few things that bugged me about the book. Ethan is supposedly British (even his name, Deveroux, sounds British), but he calls Danielle his cherie, which is French. A little confusing. There were also a few usage and mechanics errors here and there which were a little distracting, but that might just be because I am a grammar nazi. Neither of these things detracted significantly from my enjoyment of the book.

All in all, a very enjoyable, clean romance. I will certainly be buying the next book on my so I can find out where the story goes.
Yes, it sounds similar to Twilight, but it's actually got an original take on vampires. The only similarity is that Ethan is a vampire and Danielle is not. I liked Schmidt's take on vampires, I thought it was more believable and I liked that there was some hope that they could maybe change. It made it more believable that there would be good vampires, etc. I also really liked that both Ethan and Danielle not only had high standards, but they also believed marriage was a positive thing (something Bella could learn from).

There were only a couple things I didn't like. Ethan chuckled a little too much. Ethan tended to carry Danielle an awful lot, she says she can walk, so let her walk. =) Lastly, I didn't see why Lucas would be after Danielle right off the bat like that. I know Ethan interrupted his attack, but I wanted a little more motivation for Lucas and Celeste to be after Danielle.
The book was pretty good. It did have some problems.
Some of the breaks were poorly done. For example, one moment she's getting into bed and the next paragraph suddenly they are learning karate. No real separation between the two. The cover art makes me cringe too. The weird posing and odd facial expression just kills it. The following two books have great cover art, but this one made me want to avoid the book.
Overall, it's an interesting book, if a bit melodramatic at times. Still worth a read if you have time. I haven't bought book two, but did add it to my wishlist. I'm not dying for the next one, but would still like to have it.
This story is a simplistic tale of a girl in London who meets her soulmate, and he just turns out to be a vampire. Not the dangerous kind, that would drain her dry, of course, or there would be no story, but a vampire who has promised to not feed from humans, and who falls in love with her. The story is interesting, but the book could use an editor. Not knowing which homophones you want is unacceptable. Spelling errors are unacceptable. Still, overall, it's an okay read. I want to know then ending , so I've purchased the next two in the series.....but I almost wish I hadn't taken the time to start it.
